Helen has been working with us at Taunton Chiropractic Clinic for many years now. She is highly thought of by all members of our team and of course her patients. Her skills as a massage therapist help many of our patients to feel relaxed and help to relieve their aches and pains.
As well as working as a massage therapist at the clinic, Helen is also a physical education teacher, helps with the training of the massage students in Bridgwater College, she plays hockey and is a wife and mum to three children……and now she has decided to run a marathon!!! She may be crazy but she is running for a good cause.
Here is Helen’s JustGiving story:
I have always wanted to complete a marathon (crazy I know!!) but I see it as a challenge that will push me to my limit and a little bit more!!
My Father had prostate cancer and lost his fight in 2015, after battling it for 4 years. Having watched how he fought so bravely without complaining or making a fuss, completing his doctorate at Exeter University (which he was awarded 2 weeks before he passed away) alongside making trips to the hospital to have chemotherapy made me realise, me running a marathon was nothing in comparison to what he went through.
If we had the knowledge and knew the common signs of prostate cancer maybe he could have detected it earlier. He was not shy about spreading the word around his family, friends and colleagues once he was diagnosed so that they could be aware of the signs and symptoms and get checked early. Some took his advice and discovered they had it too, fortunately in the early stages and they were/are being treated. Without my Father’s openness they may never have known.
The money I raise will go towards prostate cancer to develop ongoing research and care of those men suffering with prostate cancer now and in the future.
Men, do not be shy…. Go to the doctor if you are worried about anything and get your balls checked out!!!
Helen is running the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 9 April 2017. If you would like to donate and show your support to Helen’s marathon efforts follow the link below to Helen’s JustGiving page:
